I’m using version 0.4.4 and am finding that Rao won’t retain the openai or anthropic keys that I give it. They work initially. But if I close the app and re-open, they’re gone and I need to re-enter them to continue. Interestingly, the box for accepting these keys looks like they’ve been successfully entered. But when I start a dialogue, I get an error saying they’re not.
You’re on Windows, right? I wasn’t able to replicate the issue locally (on Mac) with a few minutes of trying. The way this is supposed to work is that the keys and rules are preserved to the same user preferences file that’s used in the rest of Rao, but maybe that’s not working. Are the rest of the settings preserved?
I experimented and think I see the problem. When I edit Rao’s settings such as…
…these are all preserved when I quit and straightway restart Rao. However, if at any point in between quitting and restarting Rao I also open RStudio, then when I restart Rao the settings are gone. It seems that opening RStudio clears my Rao settings. Is that possible? I’m using RStudio 2025.09.1 Build 401.
And yes, I’m on Windows 11. It’s all up to date. And I get the same problem on a second Windows system.
…Because there must be some shared settings between Rao and R Studio, correct? For instance, I noticed after installing Rao that it automatically read-in some of R Studio settings such as my cobalt display.
